Which rule size for which age

  • Kindergarten rule (large): tall lines with a dashed midline give new writers room to steer. Use until letters sit reliably between the lines.
  • Grade 1-2 rule (medium): the standard for early primary; matches most school workbooks.
  • Grade 3+ rule (small): a bridge toward ordinary lined paper: keep the midline while sizes shrink.

Why the three-line system works

The baseline anchors the letters, the midline caps the small ones, and the top line gives ascenders a ceiling.
